Infertility is very unfair.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You feel a failure.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You feel left out and left behind.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You see others around you getting pregnant so easily.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's on your mind every minute of every day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You ask yourself, "When will it be my turn?"
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Will this month be the month?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You change all your plans because what if you are pregnant by then?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then when it doesn't happen yet again, you feel a greater sense of despair.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You feel stuck and that life is on hold.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have been there. It took me 7 years to have my family. Infertility turned my whole life upside down and it was a lonely, painful and confusing time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don’t want you to feel that way.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want you to feel supported, clear and to help you move forward.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I now work with women to address fertility issues in order for them to have the best chance of having a healthy pregnancy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I help them feel safe, supported and guided on the journey, whether that's naturally or down the assisted route.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re feeling lost, confused and unsure, I’d love to talk to you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’d love to take you on the journey I went on to ultimately have two beautiful children.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m here if you’re ready.

Women with endometriosis are nearly 3 times more l Women with endometriosis are nearly 3 times more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One study showed the odds nearly trebled from 0.6% to 1.6% for women with endometriosis (BMJ, 2015).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In my 20s and early 30s I had very painful and heavy periods.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the time, I just thought that painful periods were ‘normal’. I didn’t see my GP or request any further testing. But looking back, I often wonder if this was endometriosis.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I went on to have two ectopic pregnancies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Looking back, I wish I had taken my period pain and heavy periods more seriously and not put up with them as something that had to be endured each month.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition where cells of the uterine lining migrate outside the uterus. Symptoms include painful periods, pain during intercourse, chronic pelvic pain, painful bowel movements and fertility problems.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is also a risk factor for ectopic pregnancy, due to possible formation of adhesions, scar tissue and tubal inflammation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is estimated that 1 in 10 women worldwide are affected by endometriosis, with a whopping 50% of women with infertility possibly affected by the condition. However, many women struggle with this for years, as the average amount of time to get an endometriosis diagnosis is a staggering 7.5 years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, if your periods are very painful or heavy, I urge you to realise that, although very common, this is not normal. Do not feel that you have to struggle on with this alone. Your first port of call should always be your GP. But addressing your nutrition and lifestyle can be transformational.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, so I shall be covering this topic in much more detail then.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you have endometriosis and have had an ectopic pregnancy?
Y or N – Let me know in the comments
Moving on from an ectopic pregnancy is not easy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Take it back to basics.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Come back to yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stop and breathe.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Take it one step at a time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One day at a time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Be kind to yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You're doing just fine.
You don’t know if that was your one chance of ha You don’t know if that was your one chance of having a family.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You don’t know if you will have another ectopic pregnancy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You don’t know if this is the end of your journey to be a mum.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You don’t know if you can go through it all again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I didn’t know either, but I kept going.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And when my worst fear came true and I did have a second ectopic pregnancy, I kept looking forwards.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now I am on the other side, but I sometimes still feel battered and bruised, despite my ectopic pregnancies happening in 2013 and 2018.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But from my darkest times now comes a deep drive to want to help others who have been through the same experience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For those of you fearful of trying again naturally, there are practical things you can do to feel more positive (see my previous posts for this) and support your overall fertility.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the very least you can work on your mindset to help you move forwards with more confidence. Remember that the stats of having a healthy pregnancy after an ectopic are good, but it may just take some time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And for those of you having to accept that IVF is now your only hope of having a baby, there is so much you can do to prepare. I went on to have my two girls via IVF.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t lose hope, but do the work. Don’t waste a precious cycle with lack of preparation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If I can turn things around, so can you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hang on in there and keep looking forwards.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sending love and strength xx
I had no idea what to do after my first ectopic pr I had no idea what to do after my first ectopic pregnancy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was not given answers about why it happened or what I could do to lower my risk.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the hospital, I was just told that my risk of having another ectopic pregnancy was now higher and afterwards, I was sent home to get on with it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I struggled to come to terms with what had happened and, as the months went on, I just felt afraid of trying again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don't want that for you. I don't want you to feel stuck, fearful or lost. I want you to feel supported, guided and clear about how to move forwards.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But it takes a shift of perspective. There is a lot you can do to improve your chances of having a healthy pregnancy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It starts with changing your focus from what you can't change to what is in your control:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ See your GP for investigations into Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), which includes chlamydia and gonorrhoea testing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ Painful and heavy periods can be a sign of endometriosis, which can cause scarring and adhesions. Diet and lifestyle can help to manage hormonal imbalances, but your first port of call should be your GP.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ An anti-inflammatory diet is a fantastic diet to help reduce inflammation (one of the risk factors for ectopic pregnancy) but also to support your overall fertility and egg health.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ I cannot tell you how important the health of your vaginal microbiome is for your fertility. I now run this test with virtually all of my clients, especially those who have had an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. DM me if you want to know more about my fertility programmes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ Mindset is an important piece of the fertility puzzle. Focus on your own path, what you can do so that you feel empowered and take it one step at a time.
